> We called or visited the closest pub to every station on the London Underground, including the new Elizabeth line, and put the cheapest pint at each one on a pint-shaped tube map.

We called or visited the pub closest to every station on the London
Underground and asked one question: what is your cheapest pint? The answers
went onto a tube map redrawn in the shape of a pint glass. The 2022 edition
is the second, after the original in 2019, and it is the first to include
 the Elizabeth line.

## What changed between 2019 and 2022

The average cheapest pint rose from **£3.91 to
£4.47** across the three years between the two maps. That is
roughly fourteen percent, on the cheapest pint rather than the average one,
which makes it a floor rather than a headline.

The 2019 map was picked up by the
 [Evening
Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/redesigned-tube-map-shows-cheapest-pints-of-beer-close-to-london-stations-a4191731.html), which is a fair description of what this is: a piece of London
trivia that happens to be researched properly, one pub at a time.

## Why an ordering company made a tube map

Because the price of a pint is the most legible number in hospitality. It
is the one figure every guest checks and every operator defends, and it moves
with rent, energy, duty and staffing all at once. A map of the cheapest pint
in London is a map of where the pressure sits.

The pubs on this map take orders the same way most of the country does:
at a bar, on paper, or through an app that charges them for the privilege.
[Order and pay at the table](https://storekit.com/products/order-pay-qr-ordering) is
the version where the pub keeps the margin, and where a guest gets their
second round without queueing for it.
