# Sync Past Orders to Klaviyo

> Run the one-off historical orders sync so storekit backfills every past order into Klaviyo as Placed Order and Ordered Product events, without triggering flows.

New connections start empty. The historical orders sync sends every past order in your account to Klaviyo, dated when it actually happened, so segments like "ordered more than 3 times" or "last ordered over 45 days ago" work from day one.

## Run the Sync

<Steps>
  <Step title="Check which stores are switched on">
    The sync covers every store whose **Enable Klaviyo** switch is on. Switch off and **Save** any store you do not want included first — see [Connecting Klaviyo](/docs/guides/integrations/marketing/klaviyo/connect#set-up-each-additional-store).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open Klaviyo">
    Go to **Stores** → any store → **Settings** → **Integrations** → **Klaviyo**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Run the sync">
    Under **Klaviyo account**, click **Edit**, then under **Historical orders** click **Run sync**. A dialog explains the sync sends every past order from every switched-on store and can only run once per account — click **Confirm**. The button changes to **In progress**, with a **Refresh status** link to check again; depending on how many orders you have, it can take a while.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Check>
  When it finishes, the button is replaced by **Completed**. Open a long-standing customer's profile in Klaviyo and you should see their past orders listed with their original dates.
</Check>

## What Is Sent

| Included | Not included |
| - | - |
| Orders with status **Complete** or **Accepted** | Cancelled, rejected or failed orders |
| Orders with a customer email address | Orders with no email (many dine-in and kiosk orders) |
| Orders from stores switched on | Orders from stores switched off |

Each order becomes one **Placed Order** event plus one **Ordered Product** event per dish, with the same properties as live orders — see the [Event Reference](/docs/guides/integrations/marketing/klaviyo/event-reference#order-events). No **Fulfilled Order** events are backfilled, and nobody is subscribed to your list: consent is only taken from live checkouts.

## How Klaviyo Treats Backfilled Events

Events carry their original order dates and are sent as a backfill, so Klaviyo records them without triggering any flows. A customer who ordered eighteen months ago will not receive your abandoned checkout or post-order emails as a result of the sync. The events do count towards segment conditions on **Placed Order** and **Ordered Product** (count, value, first and last date), so history-based segments work straight away.

## Limits

* The sync runs **once per account**. Once completed, the button does not come back; there is no way to re-run it from the dashboard.
* Because it runs per account, it cannot be limited to one store other than by switching the other stores off before you run it.
* Orders placed while the sync is running are sent by the normal live integration; they are not duplicated.
