# Klaviyo

> Connect Klaviyo to storekit for order, checkout, review and native app activity, customer profiles and menu catalog sync, with guides to consent, flows and troubleshooting.

Klaviyo is an email, SMS and mobile push marketing platform. Connected to storekit, online orders, dishes bought, checkouts and reviews can reach customer profiles, and your menu can be kept in Klaviyo's catalog for use in templates. Use it to bring customers back with abandoned checkout reminders, post-order follow-ups, reorder nudges, review requests and win-back campaigns. Branded iOS and Android apps can also record app visits and receive push notifications.

This section is split into focused guides. Start with **Connecting Klaviyo**, then set up the areas you need.

## What Klaviyo Receives

| Moment | Klaviyo event | Typical use |
| - | - | - |
| Customer opens your ordering page | **Viewed Menu** | Menu browse abandonment (known customers only) |
| Customer opens your brand's store-picker page | **Viewed Brand** | Multi-store browse abandonment (known customers only) |
| Customer opens a Klaviyo-enabled native app or returns to it | **Opened App** | App engagement and return-visit segments |
| Customer taps a Klaviyo push notification in your connected app | **Opened Push** | Push campaign engagement |
| Customer views a dish | **Viewed Product** | Browse abandonment |
| Customer adds a dish to their basket | **Added to Cart** | Abandoned checkout reminder with the dishes they wanted |
| Customer reaches checkout | **Started Checkout** | Abandoned checkout reminder |
| Customer places an order | **Placed Order** | Thank-you and post-order flows, spend-based segments |
| Each dish on that order | **Ordered Product** | Reorder reminders, dish-level cross-sell |
| You mark the order complete | **Fulfilled Order** | "How was it?" follow-ups |
| The order is cancelled | **Canceled Order** | Apology and come-back offers |
| You refund an order | **Refunded Order** | Apology flows, suppress promotions |
| storekit asks for a rating | **Review Requested** | Your own review reminder |
| Customer rates their order | **Review Submitted**, **Positive Review Submitted** or **Negative Review Submitted** | Google review ask, recovery flows |
| Customer rates a dish | **Reviewed Product** | Dish-level feedback segments |

Alongside events, storekit also:

* **Identifies the customer** as soon as they enter their email at checkout, so a customer who abandons before paying still has a profile you can reach.
* **Subscribes customers to your list** when they tick your marketing opt-in box at checkout — email and, if they gave a phone number, SMS.
* **Backfills your order history** on request.
* **Syncs your menu** to Klaviyo's catalog daily.

Order events for customers who check out without an email address are not sent to Klaviyo. App customers can still appear with incomplete contact details; see [Customer Profiles](/docs/guides/integrations/marketing/klaviyo/native-apps#customer-profiles).

## How the Connection Works

Data reaches Klaviyo by three routes:

* **Order and review events** are sent by storekit's servers using your **Private key**. They arrive for every order with an email address, whatever the customer's browser does.
* **On-site events** (Viewed Product, Added to Cart, Started Checkout) are sent from the customer's browser by Klaviyo's own script, which storekit loads when the store has a **Public key / site ID**. Ad blockers stop these for some customers; that is normal.
* **Native app activity** shows when customers open your app and tap Klaviyo push notifications. Your app needs to be connected separately from your website; contact storekit support to confirm it is enabled. See [Native Apps](/docs/guides/integrations/marketing/klaviyo/native-apps).

The web and server routes work together:

```
Customer browses and checks out          storekit dashboard
        ↓ (browser, public key)                  ↓ (server, private key)
Viewed Product / Added to Cart /          Placed Order → Ordered Product →
Started Checkout                          Fulfilled / Canceled / Refunded Order →
        ↓                                 Review Requested → Review Submitted
        └──────────── one Klaviyo profile per email ────────────┘
```

## Account Settings and Store Settings

For website tracking and order events, the **Private key** is entered once and shared by every store in your storekit account. App tracking is managed separately. The settings below apply to your website and orders:

| Setting | Scope | Controls |
| - | - | - |
| **Private key** | Account | Whether storekit's servers can send order and review events |
| **Enable Klaviyo** switch | Store | Whether this store sends order and review events |
| **Public key / site ID** | Store | Whether this store sends on-site events and identifies customers at checkout |
| **Subscriber list** | Store | Which list opted-in customers join |
| **Catalog sync** | Account | Whether your menus are mirrored to the Klaviyo catalog |
| **Historical orders** sync | Account | One-off backfill across all switched-on stores |

Connecting switches every store on. A store with no public key still sends every order but its abandoned checkout flows stay empty; a store with its **Enable Klaviyo** switch off sends no web or server integration events. The switch does not turn off app tracking.
