# Using the storekit Kiosk App

> Pair, lock and manage a tablet running the storekit kiosk app: entering the claim code, the staff PIN, the admin screen, updates, unenrolling and recovery screens.

The storekit kiosk app runs your kiosk full screen on a dedicated tablet. It shows the same kiosk as a browser kiosk, and adds a PIN-protected admin screen, device lock and app updates. You manage it in the dashboard under **Kiosks & Terminals**, like any other kiosk.

## Pairing the App

<Steps>
  <Step title="Generate a claim code">
    In the dashboard, go to **Stores** → your store → **Settings** → **Kiosks & Terminals** and click **Pair device** on the kiosk's row — or open its **⋯** menu and choose **Generate claim code**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Scan or enter the code">
    On the app's setup screen, keep **Scan QR** selected and hold the QR code from the dashboard's **Claim code** dialog up to the tablet's camera. If the camera can't see it, tap **Enter code**, type the six-character code and tap **Connect**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If pairing fails, the app shows one of these:

| Message | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Invalid or expired code — generate a new one in the dashboard** | Generate a new code and enter it within 5 minutes |
| **No connection — check the network and try again** | Check the tablet's Wi-Fi, then try again |
| **Something went wrong — try again** | Try again. If it keeps happening, contact support |

## Opening Admin

Tap the top-left corner of the kiosk homescreen five times within three seconds, then enter the kiosk's staff PIN on the **Staff PIN** pad. You set the PIN in the dashboard. See [Setting a Staff PIN →](/docs/guides/store-settings/kiosks-terminals#setting-a-staff-pin).

* **Wrong PIN** means the digits didn't match. After too many wrong tries the pad shows **Too many attempts — try again in** a number of minutes.
* **No staff PIN is set for this kiosk** means admin is locked until a PIN is set in the dashboard. Set one, wait for the kiosk to pick it up (up to 5 minutes), then tap **Check again**.
* **This app version can't check this kiosk's PIN. Update the StoreKit Kiosk app.** means the app needs updating before admin can open.

## Admin Controls

| Group | Control | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| **Kiosk** | **Reload kiosk** | Reloads the kiosk screen |
| | **Clear web data & reload** | Clears the kiosk's saved web data and reloads it. The tablet stays paired |
| | **Web diagnostics** | Opens the kiosk's own **Kiosk Admin** panel with status and recent events. See [Using Kiosk Admin on the Device →](/docs/guides/kiosks/kiosk-admin) |
| **Software update** | **Check for update now** | Checks for and downloads an app update. **Status** shows **Up to date**, **Update downloaded** or an error |
| | **Restart to apply update** | Appears once an update has downloaded. Restarts the app on the new version |
| **Display** | **Orientation** | **Auto**, **Portrait** or **Landscape** |
| | **Kiosk mode** | **On** asks the tablet to lock to the app. The lock only works on a tablet set up to allow it: a managed Android tablet that permits lock task mode, or a supervised iPad whose device management allows it. On other tablets the row can show **On** while the tablet isn't locked, so use [app pinning or Guided Access](/docs/guides/kiosks/setting-up-a-kiosk#locking-the-tablet-to-the-kiosk) instead. Tap it to switch to **Paused** while staff use the tablet, and tap again to turn it back **On** |
| **Danger zone** | **Unenrol this kiosk** | Removes the pairing from this tablet and returns it to setup. Tap **Confirm unenrol** to go ahead |

Tap **Done** to go back to the kiosk.

**Unenrol this kiosk** only clears the tablet. The dashboard still lists the kiosk as paired (**Online** or **Offline**). To log the device out from the dashboard as well, use [Log out device](/docs/guides/store-settings/kiosks-terminals#logging-out-a-device).

## Screens Customers Might See

| Screen | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Back shortly** | The kiosk has lost its connection and is reconnecting. It retries on its own and shows **Trying again in** a few seconds |
| **This kiosk is taking a break** | The kiosk ran into repeated problems and has stopped to recover. Customers are asked to order at the counter. Tap **Retry** to start the kiosk again, or **Admin** to open admin. Contact support if it keeps coming back |
| **This kiosk isn't enrolled** | Shown in admin when the tablet isn't paired. Tap **Run setup** to pair it |

If the app goes back to its setup screen on its own, the device was logged out from the dashboard, or a code for this kiosk was entered on another tablet. See [Kiosk Troubleshooting →](/docs/guides/kiosks/troubleshooting).
