# Kiosk Overview

> How storekit self-service kiosks work: what you need, how a tablet is paired to your store, how kiosk customers pay and where kiosk orders and reports show up.

A storekit kiosk is a tablet in your store that customers order from themselves. It runs your normal storekit menu in a full-screen kiosk layout, sends orders into the same queue as your online orders and takes payment on a linked card terminal.

<Note>
  Kiosks are enabled per account. If you can't see **Kiosks & Terminals** in your store settings, contact support.
</Note>

## What You Need

| You need | Why |
| - | - |
| A tablet with a reliable internet connection | Customers order on it. The kiosk runs in the tablet's web browser at your store's kiosk address, or in the [storekit kiosk app](/docs/guides/kiosks/kiosk-app). |
| A kiosk registered in the dashboard | Each tablet is paired with one kiosk under **Kiosks & Terminals**. |
| A card terminal linked to the kiosk | Kiosk checkout always takes payment on the linked terminal. |

## How a Kiosk Is Paired

You create the kiosk in the dashboard, then generate a six-character claim code and enter it on the tablet. The code expires after 5 minutes and works once. After that, the tablet stays signed in to that kiosk until you log it out, move the kiosk to another device or delete it.

Moving a kiosk is safe to start early. When you generate a code for a kiosk that's already active, the current tablet keeps working until the code is entered on the new one. Only then is the old tablet logged out.

## What Customers See

When nobody is using it, the kiosk shows its homescreen. A tap starts an order, the customer builds a basket from your menu and pays at checkout. If the kiosk is left mid-order, it asks **Are you still there?**, and clears the order if nobody taps **Continue Ordering**. Customers can also tap **Start Over** at any time.

The homescreen images or video and the idle timeout are set per kiosk by storekit. There is no setting for them in the dashboard. Contact support to change them.

## Taking Payment

* **Card terminal**: link a synced terminal to the kiosk under **Linked Terminal**. The customer taps or inserts their card at checkout.
  Kiosk checkout always uses the linked card terminal. There is no way to pay on the customer's own phone at a kiosk. The **Kiosk Pay by Link** setting under **Payments** doesn't change kiosk checkout today.

## Where Kiosk Orders Show Up

Kiosk orders arrive in your orders list like any other order. Kiosk performance has its own report under **Analytics** → **Kiosk**:

| Metric | What it shows |
| - | - |
| **Attract impressions** | How many times the homescreen was shown. This is the starting point for tap-to-start |
| **Tap-to-start rate** | Taps to start divided by attract impressions |
| **Tap → order rate** | Sessions that completed an order divided by sessions that tapped to start |
| **Orders completed** | Kiosk orders placed in the period |
| **Median time to order** | Median time from tap-to-start to a completed order |
| **Avg order value** | Average value of kiosk orders |
