# Kiosk Troubleshooting

> Fix common storekit kiosk problems: claim code errors, a tablet that went back to the setup screen, an offline kiosk, a stuck screen or a card terminal that isn't linked.

Most kiosk problems come down to pairing, the tablet's connection or the linked terminal. Find your symptom below.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="The tablet shows 'Code expired — generate a new one in admin'">
    Claim codes last 5 minutes. In the dashboard, open the **⋯** menu on the kiosk's row and click **Generate claim code** (or **Move to another device** for a paired kiosk), then enter the new code straight away.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The tablet shows 'Invalid code — check and try again'">
    The code was mistyped, has already been used, or has been replaced by a newer one. Each new code replaces the kiosk's previous unused code. Check you're using the most recent code for this store's kiosk, or generate a fresh one.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The tablet shows 'Registration failed — please try again'">
    The tablet couldn't reach storekit. Check its Wi-Fi, then tap **Register Kiosk** again. If the code has expired in the meantime, generate a new one.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The kiosk went back to the setup screen">
    A paired tablet only returns to **Kiosk Setup** when it's no longer allowed to use the kiosk. Check the kiosk's row under **Kiosks & Terminals**:

    * **Not paired**: someone clicked **Log out device** in the dashboard. Generate a claim code and pair the tablet again.
    * **Online** or **Offline**: either a code for this kiosk was entered on another tablet, which logged this one out, or someone tapped **Log out kiosk** in **Kiosk Admin** on this tablet. To bring this tablet back, open the kiosk's **⋯** menu, click **Move to another device** and enter the code on it.
    * The kiosk isn't listed: it was deleted. Create it again with **Add kiosk** and pair the tablet.

    Generating a code doesn't log a paired tablet out on its own. The tablet keeps working until the code is entered somewhere.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The kiosk is offline or not taking orders">
    Open **Kiosk Admin** and check **Status**. **Offline** means the tablet has lost its internet connection, so check Wi-Fi. If the tablet keeps dropping off overnight, make sure it's on charge, auto-lock is set to **Never** and battery saver is off. See [Keeping the Tablet Awake →](/docs/guides/kiosks/setting-up-a-kiosk#keeping-the-tablet-awake).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The screen looks stuck or shows an old menu">
    Open **Kiosk Admin** and tap **Force refresh**. This clears the kiosk's saved files and reloads it without unpairing it. If **Software Update** shows **Update available**, tap **Install Update**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The kiosk can't take card payments">
    Check the kiosk's row under **Kiosks & Terminals**. **No terminal linked** means no card terminal is assigned: click **Edit kiosk** and pick one under **Linked Terminal**. If the terminal isn't in the list, click **Sync terminals** under **Payment Terminals**. The list only offers active terminals that aren't linked to another kiosk.
  </Accordion>
