# Managing Kiosks and Payment Terminals

> Register storekit self-service kiosks, link card terminals, pair tablets with claim codes, move a kiosk to a new device, log a device out and set a staff PIN.

Every kiosk tablet is registered under **Kiosks & Terminals**, where you can link it to a card terminal and pair it with a claim code. This is also where you move a kiosk to a replacement tablet or log a device out.

<Note>
  **Kiosks & Terminals** only appears in your store settings when kiosks are enabled for your account. If you can't see it, contact support.
</Note>

## Syncing Your Payment Terminals

You don't add terminals by hand. They come from your payment provider and are listed under **Payment Terminals**.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Kiosks & Terminals">
    Go to **Stores** → your store → **Settings** → **Kiosks & Terminals**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sync terminals">
    Under **Payment Terminals**, click **Sync terminals**. A message confirms how many terminals were synced. Terminals already registered to another store are skipped, and the message lists their device IDs.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Each terminal shows its name (or device ID), the acquirer, the model and the serial number where known, plus which kiosk uses it — **Used by** the kiosk's name, or **Not linked to a kiosk**. A status badge only appears when a terminal isn't active. An empty list shows **No terminals synced yet**. Check with your payment provider that the terminal is assigned to this store, then sync again.

There is no way to remove a terminal on this page. Your payment provider manages terminals, and changes show up here on the next **Sync terminals**.

## Adding a Kiosk

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add the kiosk">
    Under **Kiosks**, click **Add kiosk**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name it and link a terminal">
    Enter a **Name**, for example "Kiosk 1". Under **Linked Terminal**, pick the card terminal that sits with this kiosk, or leave it as **None**. The list only offers active terminals that aren't linked to another kiosk. Click **Save**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Get the claim code">
    The **Claim code** dialog opens straight away, showing a QR code and a six-character code. **Code expires in 5 minutes.** To get a code later, click **Pair device** on a kiosk that shows **Not paired**, or open the **⋯** menu at the end of the row and choose **Generate claim code**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the code on the tablet">
    On the tablet's **Kiosk Setup** screen, type the code and tap **Register Kiosk**. The kiosk then loads your store. See [Setting Up a Kiosk Device →](/docs/guides/kiosks/setting-up-a-kiosk). In the storekit kiosk app you can scan the QR code instead, see [Using the storekit Kiosk App →](/docs/guides/kiosks/kiosk-app).
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Check>
  A paired kiosk shows the **Online** badge once it has checked in — that means it was seen in the last 15 minutes. The header above the list counts them: "3 of 4 online".
</Check>

A kiosk that's been created but not paired yet shows **Not paired** and a **Pair device** button on its row. A paired kiosk that hasn't been seen for 15 minutes shows **Offline**, with **Last seen** and a time on its row — or **Never connected** if it has never checked in. A kiosk without a terminal shows **No terminal linked**. It can't take payments until you edit it and pick one.

Every kiosk action lives in the **⋯** menu at the end of the kiosk's row: **Move to another device**, **Staff PIN**, **Edit kiosk**, **Log out device** and **Delete kiosk** (on a **Not paired** kiosk **Generate claim code** takes the place of **Move to another device**, and **Log out device** only shows for a paired kiosk). Clicking the row itself also opens **Edit kiosk**.

Each new code replaces the kiosk's previous unused code. Generate a code only when you're ready to enter it.

## Moving a Kiosk to Another Device

Use this when you replace a tablet or reinstall it. The kiosk keeps its name, terminal and staff PIN, so you don't need to create a new one.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Generate a code for the new device">
    On the kiosk's row, open the **⋯** menu and click **Move to another device**. The dialog shows a code for the new tablet.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the code on the new tablet">
    Enter the code on the new tablet's setup screen within 5 minutes.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The old tablet keeps taking orders until the code is used. As soon as the new tablet registers, the old one is logged out and goes back to its setup screen. If you close the dialog without using the code, nothing changes and the old tablet keeps working.

## Logging Out a Device

Log a device out when a tablet is lost, stolen or being taken out of service. The kiosk stays in the dashboard with its name, terminal and staff PIN, ready to pair again.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Log out">
    On an **Online** or **Offline** kiosk's row, open the **⋯** menu and click **Log out device**, then confirm with **Log out**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check">
    **Device logged out** confirms it. The kiosk's badge changes to **Not paired**, and the tablet goes back to its setup screen the next time it contacts storekit.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If you see **Couldn't log out device**, the dialog stays open and the device is still signed in. Try **Log out** again.

To pair the kiosk again, click **Pair device** on its row, or choose **Generate claim code** from its **⋯** menu, as you would for a new kiosk.

## Log Out vs Delete

| | **Log out device** | **Delete kiosk** |
| - | - | - |
| Tablet | Goes back to its setup screen | Stops working immediately |
| Kiosk in the dashboard | Kept, shown as **Not paired** | Removed |
| Name, linked terminal and staff PIN | Kept | Removed, and the terminal is unlinked |
| Pair again | **Pair device** or **Generate claim code** on the same kiosk | Create a new kiosk with **Add kiosk** |

## Setting a Staff PIN

The staff PIN protects the admin screen in the storekit kiosk app. You set it here, and it can't be created on the tablet itself. Browser kiosks don't ask for it.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the PIN dialog">
    On the kiosk's row, open the **⋯** menu and click **Staff PIN**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the PIN">
    Enter a **New PIN** of 4–8 digits, enter it again under **Confirm PIN**, and click **Save PIN**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**Staff PIN saved** confirms it, and the row shows **PIN set**. Kiosks pick up changes within 5 minutes. To change the PIN, click **Staff PIN** → **Change PIN**. To remove it, click **Remove PIN** → **Confirm remove**. With no PIN, the row shows **No staff PIN**, and staff can't open admin in the kiosk app until a new PIN is set.

## Testing With a Demo Terminal

**Add demo terminal** — in the **⋯** menu next to **Sync terminals** under **Payment Terminals** — is only shown to storekit staff, who use it to set up demos. It creates a fake card reader that approves payments without taking money, and its sales are excluded from payouts and refunds. A store can only have one. Its **Behaviour** is one of this fixed list:

| **Behaviour** | What happens at checkout |
| - | - |
| **Approves after a few seconds** | The payment succeeds |
| **Declines after a few seconds** | The payment is declined |
| **Waits for approve/decline on the kiosk** | Approve or decline it on the kiosk screen |
| **Never responds** | The terminal never answers, so you can test a timeout |

## Editing and Deleting a Kiosk

* To rename a kiosk or change its terminal, click the kiosk's row (or open its **⋯** menu and choose **Edit kiosk**). Change **Name** or **Linked Terminal**, then click **Save**.
* To remove a kiosk, open its **⋯** menu, choose **Delete kiosk** and confirm with **Delete**. This revokes the device's access and unlinks its terminal, so the tablet stops working immediately. To keep the kiosk, use **Log out device** instead.
