Lightspeed Retail POS

(Lightspeed also do a hospitality offering – don’t get mixed up!)

Lightspeed Retail is aimed at large shops, and we’d consider them a mid to top range software. That means it’s designed for big and complex inventories with features like low stock notifications. Its main competitors are Vend or Shopify POS.

Pricing

£69 per month per till.

What makes it different from Vend?

One strength of Lightspeed is that it has some service-based features which make it well suited to shops with a service element, like bike shops. If you’re not sure, call and ask.

Compatibility

Most hardware (including anything displayed here) is compatible. For payments, it can integrate with iZettle and some merchant banks. It can integrate with alternative e-commerce providers at an additional price.

Service

Lightspeed has 24/7 phone customer service.

Getting started

Stock can be bulk imported into lightspeed retail but some users have said it’s a more complex set-up than vend. Lightspeed has a 30-day free trial. To get put in touch, email hello@storekit.com.

REGRETFULL, and expensive because now I'm looking to change to something else

Pros

IOS software, wanted to switch to iPads and mini iPads and also the idea of the cloud was interesting .

Cons

20 years in business with multiple locations and decided to try lightspeed at one of my restaurants because i consider myself an apple guy. Worst decision i ever made, for the most part i got the worst dealer ever, where they don't know what they are selling, most of the issues i have had to resolve myself by calling the company direct, and that sometimes is a challenge as well. A year and half later and the system is still not doing what my old system used to do, not able to print certain reports, most nights can't close out the credit cards( most times i pray that i will be able to do it ). if you own a restaurant this is not a system for you!!!!! simple retail I'm sure its fine, but busy restaurant its just to able to handle all the customization needed. RESTAURANTS PLEASE DO NOT USE LIGHTSPEED, YOU WILL REGRET IT IF YOU DO.

Lightspeed Retail is one of the easiest POS systems that I've ever used!

Pros

I like that the software looks nice and it's very user friendly. Updates are made often to keep things getting better.

Cons

Sometimes there are features that are fairly industry-specific and can't be customized to work more efficiently for a specific industry.

I wish we would have switched to Lightspeed sooner!

Pros

My absolute favorte thing Lightspeed Omnichannel does for our company is it keeps all our inventory correct online and inside our retail store! When we have online sales, all that data is brought into the Retail Side of the software and a new customer account is created. Even when a local, regular repeat customer makes a purchase online, the software is smart enough to match it up to the existing Lightspeed Account and just adds their sale to the list of sales they already had! Now, that is cool!

Cons

I know they are working on getting more eCom Support Technicians, so that is my only thing. Sometimes I have to wait on hold, but they have an accurate call back system too that is awesome! They call me back so I can move on with my day instead of being on hold! I've tested it many times, and each time they called me back and helped me out!

Make checking out customers easy

Pros

This software allowed me to run reports which was what I really liked most. So many options for different reporting options.

Cons

Sometimes the checking out process took a little longer than I would have liked but overall I love lightspeed software.

Its the best POS I have ever worked with

Pros

Is easy to use and it responds well and fast. It has great reports. For me it's a perfect solution for a small business that needs a POS

Cons

I can't really think of anything negative about this software but I do think it's not that easy to setup custom menus, but it's not that important cause it's something you rarely configure. What I would like it's that it let's you setup your own document number sequence and also more languages and better templates for documents. They are missing out on a big international market because of this, there are countries that have some regulations on the receipt number and also they need to add some specific things to their documents, required by their government.

I was really impressed with the functionality and ease of use of the system.

Pros

It was a revolutionary tool for us in South Africa when we first started using the system in our restaurant in 2013. It eliminated errors in orders by the waitrons as orders were taken immediately at the table as opposed to the waitron memorising the order and punching it into the system. It also assisted in getting dishes to the patrons much faster as orders went directly to the kitchen with little delay. The stock functionality was also very useful to us.

Cons

Based in South Africa and the exchange rate being extremely volatile at the time, the monthly premium was sometimes quite expensive.

Couldn't Live Without It

Pros

Ease of use, Access from anywhere, Access from any device, Dialed workflows for service department operations, Seamless inventory management, Stable, Reliable, Performant

Cons

Would really like to see tighter email integration. Ability to fire email templates base on system events. For example: send customer an email to let them know their workorder is completed when the workoder is marked as finished.
