Shopify POS

Shopify is an e-commerce platform first and a POS provider second. That said, they produce basic to mid range retail POS which could be the answer if you have Shopify ecommerce. Their main competitors are Vend or Lightspeed Retail.

Pricing

It starts at $29/m but $79/m is standard. (That’s dollars so the price will fluctuate).

What makes it different?

Shopify is mainly interesting for shops with an e-commerce operation; but it integrates with Shopify payments too, so can be a total one-stop-shop.

Compatibility

It’s an app which can download onto an iPad, iPhone, or Android. It can only fully integrate with Shopify payments, and those are generally more expensive than the market rate. It can integrate with Xero or Quickbooks. All the hardware shown here is supported.

Service

Shopify has 24/7 customer service. However, some customers have reported issues with customer service reps being oriented to the online platform and less equipped to help people using the POS system.

Getting started

Shopify is user friendly and easy to set up. Shopify POS has a 14-day free trial. To get put in touch, email hello@storekit.com.

simple and does the job!

Pros

It was so easy to set up and get started and is especially handy for outdoor events that we do where we take payments through our store! Really happy with the app as well, easy to navigate and updates the inventory itself

Cons

The software is all good - could have done with a quicker response time from the support team though when I had a query but other than that, all good!

Really easy to use!

Pros

I like that it was easy to set up and I could use it straight away! Also that the sales link directly to my store which is ideal for inventory! Before I was using a paypal POS and although it takes payment it didn't update my inventory :-)

Cons

I can't think of any cons TBH! It's a neat little system and perfect for my clothing business when I take it to events and markets

Easy to use and can be used on different devices. It has its own app so can be accessed easily.

Pros

Easy to use and can be used on different devices. It’s self explanatory which is good because it’s quick to learn. The specific app is quick to locate.

Cons

Could use some possible more functions. The variations are tough to bulk upload and can be very time consuming

Easy as Pie!

Pros

I switched over to store kit about 2 years ago after using another POS system (paypal) which I found very complicated - im 47 and not "tech savy" but someone recommended to me to us this at my farm as increasingly more and more customers are wanting to pay in ways other than cash! This allows me to track all my sales - even when people pay with cash!

Cons

I haven't found anything I particularly dislike yet, maybe allow customisations on the POS so I can have my logo printed on it? that would be cool!

So simple!

Pros

So simple and easy to use. I implement this POS for all of my clients, especially those who struggle with anything online. I go in and set this all up for them. Takes 20 minutes to show them how to use it all. Wouldn’t choose anything else.

Cons

Haven’t found any issues with this POS system, my clients have never reported any issues either! I’ve switched over many of my clients who have had issues with other POS systems. Would recommend to anyone.

Simple and User friendly

Pros

It’s simplicity and ease of use. When wanting to add new functions or button, it’s a simple process which is easy to understand and takes no time at all.

Cons

The new update means that when someone is paying for their purchase, you now have to scroll down to select payment type Which is a little bit annoying.

Pros

Easy to use with layout. Simple for all staff to learn. Pricing is not to bad but cheaper options available in the market. Has a good amount of apps .

Cons

Very slow processing sales and payments. Izettle is massively faster. All app are subscription based which is un fair as it is already highly priced.

One day the POS will catch up with there e-commerce

Pros

The system is great for the features they have so far, it’s very elegant and easy to use. There is a huge amount of plugins available to expand on features.

Cons

Apps can get very expensive, the UK falls behind on features, shopify payments is borderline a must though not available for all markets. The POS system is behind of the e-commerce platform.

Shopify won for us on cost for the complete web sales/POS solution. Would we choose it again if we had the chance? Maybe.

Pros

We chose shopify for it's website and POS integration, it's easy to use and intuitive page structure makes day to day sales easy. We use it on multiple devices and can share 1 receipt printer.

Cons

Most features can be found for free via shopify's app store however mode decent apps require a additional monthly subscription.

Good reporting and simple to use

Pros

simplicity at the POS is the biggest plus for us, clear images appear on the tablet which keeps mistakes to a minimum. Easy to load the products onto the system and obtain sales reports

Cons

Inventory history is only held for 90 days which can be an issue. It would help if the end of day till reading could be exported . It would be interesting to see how many weeks stockholding was being held against each product code

Clean and easy to use

Pros

The simplicity of the interface and how easy it is to navigate between screens. I also like how quickly it switches between screens for items and how you can check out an order with simplicity.

Cons

I have noticed that the app has a tendency crash on occasion, which isn't a massive issue as you don't lose orders but is a bit annoying.

My experience of using the Shopify POS system

Pros

It's simple, easy to manage and quite a fun system. I like the fact my online inventory synchronises with my retail inventory, oh and not to mention the fact that Shopify caters for both my online and retail needs!

Cons

Certain features that are not made simple, but I guess this is because it is designed to be used quite universally and each brand's features are not proprietary.
