Vend POS

Vend is aimed at retailers, and we’d consider them a mid to top range software. That means it’s designed for rich inventories with features like low stock notifications, complex item categorisation, and loyalty points. Their main competitor is Lightspeed Retail

Pricing

£25/m per till for Lite and £69/m per till for Pro.

What makes it different from Lightspeed Retail?

They’re similar. Vend can be cheaper for e-comm integrations; Lightspeed can be better for shops with service elements. If you’re not sure, feel free to give us a ring and we can advise on what suits your specific needs more.

Compatibility

There’s a web login so it can be accessed from any device – iPad, Android, PC, Mac. Most hardware (including anything displayed here) is compatible. For payments, it can integrate with iZettle, Square, SumUp, PaymentSense. It can also integrate with Xero or Quickbooks. All the hardware on this page works with Vend.

Service

Vend has 24/7 phone customer service. It has a large UK team and customer service is generally good.

Getting started

If you have all your stock in a spreadsheet it can be imported to Vend quickly. It’s a quick set-up but leave aside a couple of hours to customise things exactly how you’d like. Vend has a 30-day free trial. To get put in touch, email hello@storekit.com.

Fantastic upgrade for iZettle

Pros

Easy user interface Good onboarding support As an iZettle user, I haven’t had to buy a brand new till set up - I’m still using my iZettle full retail set up. Good suite of integratable apps available (e.g accounting, websites etc) Much more comprehensive functionality and customisable reporting than iZettle No contract - No long term commitment

Cons

Monthly cost is high compared to other EPOS systems available but I’ve had very little upfront cost and support is strong. No additional charges for linking apps like Xero which other cheaper monthly costed EPOS providers do charge for. You get what you pay for - we are happy with our choice!

Straightforward, intuitive POS.

Pros

Vend provides a clean, easy-to-use interface that users will pick up quickly and enjoy using. All basic retail functions are accounted for -- sales, discounting/promotions, inventory control, and even built-in flexible gift card and loyalty programmes -- and presented in a way that is easy to set up and to use. Most errors, even wrong tender types, can be corrected by an administrator. Processing sales and refunds is quick and easy, and the in-transaction Notes feature enables capturing additional details or item complexity beyond the product variants.

Cons

Customers looking for greater customising, more complex/custom role setups, and activity logging might want to consider something else. Vend sacrifices rigour for flexibility in some respects, and does not allow granular event logs nor granular access controls (e.g. you can allow a user to apply discounts or not, but not set a discount threshold). Cash management cannot be disabled for a card-only business.

Awesome reporting and easy to use

Pros

Great customer service Useful reports available immediately Links to Xero Easy interface for staff members Cloud based so can be used on various devices and doesn't need to be backed up. Feels modern

Cons

Cannot connect to a weighing scale which is a key part of my business. Doesn't include hardware. Cloud based means that if you're internet goes you're out of action.

Great tech

Pros

This looks to offer everything we need, integrating Point of Sale, Stock Management and website in one software package is a great help with managing our business

Cons

The monthly subscription is rather expensive for a software package and being asked to pay an onboarding fee (only mentioned once I'd decided to go ahead) is hard to swallow

Vend customer service & technical support shines.

Pros

Support is available 24x7. Always helpful & responsive. Adding products is quite easy (also being able to duplicate would be nice).

Cons

We wish that we could customize receipts with information in the extended description. We also dream of an integrated scale feature since much of our inventory is sold by weight.

Simple basic retail POS

Pros

Cons

Does not handle our needs. We are a furniture business and need customizable invoices, customer databases, and the ability to special order products with depsoits. System is not as robust as more expensive solutions but you get what you pay for.

A fan

Pros

The customer service is out of this world. They NEVER leave you hanging & always resolve my issues in the one phone call. These guys truly understand retail & the time pressures involved & have never let me down. They're generally good, fun peeps to deal with as well.

Cons

I have a pretty demanding list of requirements for reporting & some of them require a bit of excel manipulation, HOWEVER - the data has always been there, I've just needed to massage it a bit.

Great product for running a retail store! The product works very well and set up is quite easy.

Staff that enter in new stock items, are also be granted access to All your sales history

Pros

Great easy to use systems on the front end, stable data base that despite having over 6,000 items with in it doesn't miss a beat. It professional looking. Elegantly handles discounts by either % or by dollar value. Great reports. Integrates well with Xero and my website.

Cons

Beware Employers, anyone who can enter in new stock will see everything, sales history, reports, you sensitive business data, your business health. Download load it try it for yourself. I have raised this with Vend, and my response back was "Is this really a problem?". For me it is.
