When your store is connected to a point of sale (POS), your taxes come from the POS. There is nothing to set up in storekit.

How It Works

1

storekit imports your taxes

Every menu import brings in your POS’s tax rates and gives each item the tax it has in the POS. They appear on the Taxes page (Stores → your store → Settings → Taxes).
2

storekit charges the tax

storekit calculates the tax on each order from those rates and charges the customer the right total.
3

The POS prints the receipt

The order is sent to your POS, which works out the tax on the check itself and prints the receipt. storekit doesn’t send its own tax figures. Both sides use the same rates, so the totals match.

Change Taxes in Your POS, Not in storekit

Your POS is where your taxes live. To change a rate, change it in the POS. The next menu import brings the change into storekit and replaces anything edited on the Taxes page.

If the POS and storekit Don’t Match

If the POS works out a different tax than storekit, the order still goes through, and the customer pays the total storekit showed at checkout. This can happen when a rate has changed in the POS but the menu hasn’t been imported since. Handle it by hand:
  1. Import your menu again so storekit has the POS’s current rates.
  2. If an order’s check is already wrong, correct it in your POS.

When storekit Sends Its Tax to the POS

Some POS systems accept a tax calculated by someone else. For those, storekit can send its tax with each order, and the check shows exactly what the customer paid. Toast doesn’t accept tax from storekit, so Toast always calculates the tax on its own checks. See Tax-Exclusive Pricing with Toast.
