Step 1: Set Up Your Tax Rates in Toast
In the Toast back office (Toast Web), go to Menus → Settings → Manage tax rates and create a rate for each tax you charge, for example your state, city and district rates. Use the Percent type. storekit imports Percent rates only: Fixed and Tax Table rates are not imported.Step 2: Set Your Menu to Tax Not Included
In the Toast back office (Toast Web), go to Menus → Bulk management → Advanced properties. Open the Show/Hide list, select Tax Inclusion Option, and set your menu to Tax Not Included. Menu groups and items inherit it unless you change them.- Use Tax Not Included for the whole menu. Don’t mix it with Tax Included in the same menu.
- Don’t use Smart Tax. storekit can’t follow a price that includes tax in one area of the restaurant and not in another.
Step 3: Check Prices in storekit
Go to Stores → your store → Settings → Taxes and check that Prices is Tax is added at checkout. A new US store already starts with it. If you change it, click Save.Step 4: Sync Your Menu
Go to Stores → your store → Settings → Integrations → Toast POS and click Sync Menu. See Toast Menu Sync. The sync brings your Toast tax rates onto the Taxes page and gives each item the tax it has in Toast. Each imported tax is marked Imported from Toast. The next menu import replaces changes made here. Make tax changes in Toast, then sync again. What Happens on Each Order
- The customer sees prices before tax, and the tax is added as its own line at checkout.
- storekit sends the order to Toast with the prices before tax.
- Toast works out the tax on the check with the same rates and prints the receipt. storekit doesn’t send its tax to Toast, because Toast doesn’t accept tax figures from other systems.
