Category restrictions control which parts of your menu are visible based on where a customer is seated. Customers scanning a QR code at a table in a restricted area do not see the categories you have hidden from that area.

How It Works

Restrictions are set per category, not per area. Each category has a list of table areas where it is not available:
  • A category with no areas selected is shown at every table.
  • A category with one or more areas selected is hidden from tables in those areas and shown everywhere else.
  • Products inside a hidden category are not visible or orderable from that table.
There is no area-level screen listing which categories an area can see. To give an area a shorter menu, open each category you want to remove from it and add that area to the category’s restriction list.
Restrictions need tables and areas to exist first, and the store must take dine-in orders — the Table Restrictions tab is not shown for pickup- or delivery-only stores. See Set up dine-in tables, areas, and QR codes to create areas.

Hiding a Category From an Area

Open the category

Go to Menus in the sidebar, open the menu with Edit, then click Edit next to the category name.

Open Table Restrictions

Click Table Restrictions. The panel reads “Select table areas where this category will not be available. If no areas are selected, the category will be available in all areas.”

Select the areas to hide it from

Use the Select table areas dropdown to tick every area where the category should not appear. Only active areas are listed.

Save

Click Save changes. A Table restrictions updated successfully notification confirms the change.
Scan a QR code from one of the selected areas: the category no longer appears in the menu. Scan a table in any other area and it is still there.

Showing a Category Everywhere Again

Open the category, click Table Restrictions, remove every area from Select table areas and click Save changes. An empty selection means the category is available in all areas.
Combine category restrictions with Availability by Day to further refine what’s shown at different times and locations.
